Police are attempting to determine the cause of an accident early Thursday in Kearny Mesa that left a pedestrian with a broken ankle.

A male, 42, was driving a 2016 freight truck northbound on 4700 Cardin Street approaching 7100 Ronson Road at about 6:40 a.m., San Diego police said.

The walker, a woman, 38, was standing on the north curb line at 7100 Ronson, at a “T” Intersection controlled by stop signs.

She stepped off the sidewalk as the freight truck made a left turn onto Ronson. The truck collided with her in the roadway leaving the pedestrian with an open fracture to the left ankle. Medics took her to a local hospital.

The police department’s Traffic Division responded and is handling the collision. Fault has not been determined at time.
