A fire in the back bedroom of a residence displaced two residents who escaped the flames Monday, according to the Oceanside Fire Department.

An emergency call was received at 6:55 a.m. from a concerned neighbor in the 600 block of Monica Circle who noticed smoke coming from the vents in the roof, OFD officials said.

The first fire engine crew on the scene entered the home and found two people still inside, and they were quickly evacuated, according to the OFD.

The fire was knocked down within 10 minutes, and the fire was contained to a back bedroom, OFD officials said.

Other crews helped shut off utilities, evacuating smoke and completing a secondary search for any trapped residents.

The Red Cross arrived on scene to support the displaced residents.

An investigation of the cause of the fire was ongoing.

Other agencies involved the firefight were the Vista Fire Department, Camp Pendleton crews and San Diego Gas & Electric.
