Authorities have publicly identified two young servicemen who were killed last week in a car crash on Interstate 5 in the Oceanside area.

The accident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday, when Jacob Johnson, 21, lost control of the 2016 Hyundai sedan he was driving on the southbound side of the freeway near Cocklerburr Road, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a tractor-trailer parked alongside it, fatally injuring Johnson and his front-seat passenger, 19- year-old Eduardo Hernandez Zambrano, the agency reported.

Both men died at the scene.

The medical examiner did not specify which branch or branches of the military Hernandez Zambrano and Johnson served with.
