Authorities Friday publicly identified an Alabama man who was killed this week in a fiery motorcycle crash in eastern San Diego County.
Jeremy Ponton, 34, was riding a 2005 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R to the south on Winter Gardens Boulevard in Lakeside at high speed when a 2013 Ford F- 150 backed out of a driveway north of Lemon Crest Drive into his path shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office and California Highway Patrol.
The resulting collision set the two-wheeler and the pickup truck ablaze, CHP public-affairs Officer Jared Grieshaber said. Paramedics took Ponton to UCSD Medical Center in San Diego, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Ford and a passenger in his vehicle suffered no injuries in the wreck, Grieshaber said.
