The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department identified a man suspected of peeping in a San Marcos park woman’s bathroom and have closed the case.

After asking for the public’s help in finding the man, detectives with the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station on Thursday said they had found that the person of interest is a dependent adult.

A member of the public recognized the man in a news release issued Wednesday and contacted the station. Detectives learned he man has autism and attends an adult daycare program. They verified this information with the man’s mother, who confirmed that her son is non-verbal and has the mental capacity of a child.

The information was given to the victim of the March 28 incident. She told detectives she felt at ease they were able to identify the man and no longer desired prosecution.

On March 28, the woman was using a bathroom at Bradley Park, in the 1500 block of Linda Vista Drive, when she says she noticed a man peering at her through a gap in the bathroom stall, Detective Lavinia Fifita said.

The victim got away, but also captured an image of the suspect on her cell phone.
