A 54-year-old man was struck by a vehicle and seriously injured while walking with a companion west in the westbound bicycle lane of Pershing Drive at B Street in Balboa Park, the San Diego Police Department said Thursday.
At 8:16 p.m Wednesday, an unidentified driver was traveling west in the westbound lane of Pershing Drive, according to SDPD Officer John Buttle. For unknown reasons, the driver drifted into the bicycle lane, struck the pedestrian and drove away from the scene.
The injured man was taken to a hospital for a collapsed lung, a skull fracture, a cervical spinal column fracture, a cut to his lower lip, and an intracerebral hemorrhage, the officer said.
Traffic Division officers responded to the scene and were investigating the collision.
