Authorities Wednesday announced an increased reward of $55,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in connection with a five-year-old Lincoln Park-area murder.
The family of 22-year-old Gregory “Izik” Ruffin Jr. has added $4,000 to previous monetary pledges of $1,000 by San Diego County Crime Stoppers and $50,000 on the part of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office for tips that can help investigators solve the case.
Ruffin was leaving a friend’s apartment in the 300 block of 47th Street when someone opened fire on him about 11 p.m. on Feb. 24, 2019, according to police. He collapsed onto a sidewalk and died at the scene.
In an online video posted by the San Diego Police Department, the victim’s father, Greg Ruffin, said his family needs closure regarding the “senseless” and “shocking” death of his son, whom he described as a non-violent person with no gang ties.
“If someone knows, has got information about this, I would like for them to come forward … because it’s the right thing to do,” Ruffin said. “It would help us tremendously to at least have some answers to all our questions — you know, of why and how — and bring the people to justice that did this, so they no longer could do this to another family.”
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477 or contact the agency online at sdcrimestoppers.org. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
