A predawn shooting at a Chula Vista apartment complex left one man dead Wednesday, another badly wounded and two teenage suspects in custody.

A woman made a 911 call shortly after 1:30 a.m. to report that a friend of hers had been shot in the 1300 block of Calle Verona, just east of Heritage Road and south of Olympic Parkway, according to the Chula Vista Police Department.

Patrol personnel arrived to find a man in front of an apartment with a gunshot wound to the head, CVPD Sgt. Anthony Molina said. The victim, whose name was withheld pending family notification, died at the scene.

The second victim was inside the residence, Molina said. Paramedics took the 24-year-old man to a hospital for treatment of a serious gunshot wound to his face.

In the late afternoon, police announced the arrests of two 15-year-old boys on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the shooting of the surviving victim. Their names were withheld because they are minors.

Officials did not disclose whether the teenagers could also face charges over the death of the other victim, or if another shooter or shooters were believed to have been responsible for the fatal gunfire.
