A driver was killed Sunday afternoon after a high-speed crash on the southbound 5 near Palomar Street in Chula Vista.

According to Onscene.TV, a woman heading south with three passengers in the car saw a BMW come up fast behind her, and so she changed lanes to get out of its way at around 5 p.m..

The BMV went around her but then swerved into her car, hitting her front end on the driver’s side.

It then went across all lanes of traffic and up an embankment where it hit a tree head-on and then rolled back into traffic, catching fire and ejecting the driver, who died at the scene.

According to witnesses, the BMW was racing another car, a white Ford Mustang with a black stripe which left the scene.

No one else was injured.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
