A 21-year-old man was arrested Friday on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon in the stabbing of a 23-year-old man in the Gaslamp neighborhood, the San Diego Police Department said.
At 2:19 a.m. Friday, Eduardo Santiago Magdalena was allegedly involved in an altercation with a group of bystanders at 500 F Street, SDPD Officer David O’Brien said.
Magdalena walked away after the altercation and was handed a knife, the officer said.
“Magdalena walked back toward the group he had been fighting with and stabbed a 23-year-old man who was not involved in the initial altercation,” O’Brien said. “The victim sustained a two-inch laceration to the upper right chest.”
The victim was taken by ambulance to a hospital and underwent surgery for a collapsed lung. He is in stable condition, O’Brien said.
Witnesses identified Magdalena as the suspect in the stabbing, O’Brien said.
He was booked into San Diego Central Jail on a felony charge of suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and faces arraignment at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Central Division Felony Court. SDPD Central Division detectives responded and were handling the investigation.
