Customs and Border Protection officers at the San Ysidro Port of Entry reported the discovery of methamphetamine, fentanyl, heroin, cocaine and three handguns concealed in a woman’s SUV.
Officers on duty Monday night encountered the 38-year-old woman seeking entry and noticed several packages behind the rear seats of her vehicle.
The woman was directed to a further inspection, where X-ray imaging revealed “anomalies in the vehicle’s firewall, rear seats, spare tire, and trunk.” A drug sniffing dog then indicated the presence of narcotics.
CBP officers extracted 103 packages containing methamphetamine, blue fentanyl pills, heroin and cocaine, and discovered three handguns. The narcotics weighed 126 pounds with an estimated street value of $885,000.
“Another outstanding interdiction by our CBP officers,” said Mariza Marin, port director at San Ysidro. “Our officers inspect over 100,000 travelers each day, balancing the need to efficiently process legitimate trade and travel with the ability to intercept illicit goods and narcotics. This seizure is a testament to their hard work and dedication.”
The subject was turned over to Homeland Security for further investigation. The narcotics, firearms and vehicle were seized by the CBP.
This seizure was part of Operation Apollo, a regional effort by federal, state and local agencies to combat the threat from fentanyl and other synthetic narcotics.
