A pedestrian suffered severe injuries Wednesday when a vehicle struck her on a Hillcrest thoroughfare.
The accident occurred in the 1100 block of University Avenue at about 10:30 a.m., according to the San Diego Police Department.
Paramedics took the victim to nearby Scripps Mercy Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, SDPD public-affairs Officer Scott Lockwood said.
Police shut down the eastbound lanes of the street between 10th Avenue and Vermont Street to allow investigators to document the scene of the accident. The closure was expected to last for about two hours, Lockwood said.
