A predawn stabbing in a homeless shelter at Golden Hall left a 32-year-old man wounded Wednesday, authorities reported.

The victim was sleeping in a bunk bed at the civic facility on First Avenue in downtown San Diego when the assault occurred at about 3:45 a.m., according to police.

Following the attack, the 33-year-old suspected assailant left the shelter and walked off to the south, according to Officer David O’Brien of the San Diego Police Department.

Paramedics took the victim to a hospital for treatment of a roughly 2- inch-deep cut to his abdomen. The injury was not believed to be life- threatening.

The suspect, whose name was not immediately available, remained at large in the mid-afternoon, O’Brien said.
