A man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly attacking and seriously injuring his parents with a knife during a visit to their Coronado home.

Adam Michael Nordhues, 41, of La Mesa reportedly assaulted the couple, both 69 years old, without provocation shortly before 9 p.m. Monday at a condominium complex in the 1700 block of Avenida Del Mundo, just west of Glorietta Bay.

According to the Coronado Police Department, patrol personnel arrived to find the victims in the lobby of their building. Paramedics took them to a local trauma center for treatment of severe, but apparently non-life-threatening, wounds.

Officers found the suspect in a parking lot at the complex, still armed with a knife. Police said that Nordhues allegedly ignored repeated orders to drop the weapon and surrender, prompting officers to use an electric stun gun on him before taking him into custody.

Nordhues was booked into San Diego Central Jail after being treated at a hospital and is being held on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and elder abuse.

He was being held without bail pending arraignment, which was scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
