The identities of a suspected gunman who shot two men, killing one and wounding the other, in Spring Valley were all identified Thursday by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

The shooting happened at around 10 p.m. on July 4th in the 2700 block of Central Avenue, according to SDCSD Homicide Lt. Joseph Jarjura.

Fernando Kevin Villegas, 25, was found in the middle of the street, the lieutenant said. He was suffering from several gunshot wounds to his upper torso and pronounced dead at the scene.

Kaulana Dustin” Hernandez Liu, 22, arrived at a hospital with a gunshot wound to his arm. Liu was treated and later released.

Liu and Villegas arrived at the Central Avenue residence because a friend was hosting a party, Jarjura said.

“When they got out of their vehicle there was a group of people standing in the area,” he said. “Almost immediately, Liu and Villegas were shot by one of the members of that group.”

The suspected gunman was later identified as Trevion G’shon Austin, 20, and a documented Eastside Piru gang member on juvenile probation for a stabbing, Jarjura said.

On August 1st, Austin was arrested by the sheriff’s department on suspicion of killing Villegas and the attempted killing of Liu, Jarjura said.

“At this stage of the investigation, the nature of the relationship between the victims and any potential suspects is unclear,” the lieutenant said. “The motivation and circumstances of the shooting are still under investigation.”

Anyone with any information about the shooting was asked to call the SDCSD at 858-285-6330 or 858-565-5200.
