A midday fire spread through a residential trailer at a National City mobile home park Monday, displacing three residents and leaving one of them suffering from burns and smoke inhalation, authorities reported.
The blaze in the 3100 block of Valley Road erupted for unknown reasons about 12:15 p.m., according to the National City Fire Department.
The three people who live in the double-wide trailer, two men and a woman, were able to get out prior to the arrival of emergency crews; however, the woman was injured by the fire and smoke from trying in vain to put out the flames, NCFD Battalion Chief Robert Hernandez said. Paramedics took the woman to UCSD Medical Center in San Diego.
Three uninjured dogs also were rescued from the burning structure by emergency responders, Hernandez said.
While extinguishing the blaze, which took roughly 15 minutes, crews evacuated the surrounding area, Hernandez said.
The American Red Cross was called in to help the displaced residents arrange for emergency shelter.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
