The California Highway Patrol Friday investigated the discovery of a decomposing body found in the Logan Heights neighborhood, in connection with a brush fire.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the fire was reported at 10:50 a.m. Friday in the 3300 block of Imperial Avenue.

The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department responded, and found the body of an unidentified male inside what appeared to be a tent, authorities said.

Because the body was found near an interstate highway, CHP is handling the investigation.

CHP Officer Jesse Matias said the county Medical Examiner’s Office will release information on the man’s identity. Matias added the tent may have been a homeless encampment.

Matias said the man had been dead for at least two days, but foul play is not suspected.

Jose Ysea, a spokesman with San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, said the Metro Arson Strike Team is investigating what caused the fire.
