A 62-year-old San Diego man died Friday after being struck by a vehicle while walking on U.S. Interstate 805, following his involvement in a minor collision with a semi-truck, the California Highway Patrol said.

Just after noon, the man — who was driving a black Acura sedan — was in a reported collision with a Freightliner semi-truck on northbound I-805, south of state Route 52, the CHP said in a news release.

Both drivers pulled over, and the 62-year-old man crossed transition lanes to contact the semi-truck driver.

While attempting to return to the Acura, the man “walked into the No. 1 lane of the transition ramp and was struck by a white Ford pick-up truck,” according to the CHP.

The driver of the Acura was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.

The Ford pick-up truck driver was not injured and remained at the scene, according to the CHP.

Authorities closed multiple highway lanes for two hours as part of a continuing investigation.

The CHP said the county Medical Examiner’s Office will issue a toxicology report on whether drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of family, according to the CHP.
