A brush fire that started in a rugged area near County Highway S22 was fully contained after burning 20 acres, a Cal Fire official said Thursday.

The fire was reported at 4:10 p.m. Tuesday near the community of Ranchita, west of Borrego Springs, and was fully contained by 7 p.m. Wednesday. The cause remains under investigation, Capt. Mike Cornette said.

Cornette said the fire started a couple of miles away, close to Jasper Trail in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.

He said there were no new injuries or structural damage. Earlier, a firefighter was taken to a hospital after suffering a heat-related injury, and was recovering.

A 70-member crew was dispatched to battle the blaze.
