A rear-ender on southbound Interstate 5 in Logan Heights on Monday sparked a chain-reaction collision involving three cars.
The male driver of a white van struck a Ford Ranger shortly before noon, sending the truck into the back of another car, according to OnScene.TV. The crash caused the Ranger to flip and catch fire, and flames spread to the third car.
Firefighters arrived to find that the occupants had been able to escape the damaged vehicles. Medics sent the male driver of the Ranger to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert as they closed three northbound lanes on I-5 south of 28th Street. Two were quickly re-opened.
