Ground and airborne crews quickly gained the upper hand Thursday on a fire that charred about three acres in the eastern reaches of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.

The blaze started shortly before 10 a.m. east of Interstate 15 and north of state Route 52, near the former Camp Elliott military base, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Firefighters, including personnel aboard a water-dropping helicopter, had the flames under control as of 11:15 a.m., the agency reported.

No structural damage or injuries were reported. It was not immediately clear what sparked the blaze.
