A fire, possibly started by an e-bike being charged in the garage of a three-story condominium in the Serra Mesa neighborhood of San Diego, caused an estimated $50,000 in damage Wednesday, the San Diego Fire- Rescue Department said.
The fire was reported at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday. Crews arrived at 7:21 a.m. to find the blaze in the condo’s garage in the 2100 block of Fenton Parkway, according to a San Diego fire online log.
Officials estimate the damage to the structure was up to $25,000, with another $25,000 in damage to the contents.
The fire was accidental, officials said.
“It started in the vicinity of where an e-bike was charging but we can’t definitively say that the fire was caused by the battery,” the log reported.
A Hazmat team was removing lithium-ion batteries that were damaged in the fire.
