An elderly man remained in critical condition Saturday after he was struck by a truck while sitting on a bus bench in Chula Vista.
The Chula Vista Police Department, according to a news release, received a 911 call of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian incident collision in the 300 block of E Street at about 9 p.m. Saturday.
When officers arrived, they discovered a large pickup truck had collided with a bus bench, where a 65-year-old male had been seated.
The occupants of the truck, who remained on scene, had contacted 911 as soon as the collision occurred. Officers and paramedics responded to provide lifesaving measures to the victim, who was transported to a local hospital.
The police Traffic Bureau was called to the scene and the driver cooperated with investigators. The cause of the collision has not yet been determined.
