Two structures burned in a second-alarm fire that started in an abandoned house in the East Village.

The fire was reported at 4:39 p.m. on Island Avenue near 17th Street, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

The department tweeted that firefighters focused on preventing the fire from moving to nearby buildings.

Photos from the scene showed flames bursting from the roof of a two-story building. OnScene.TV reported that transients were believed to have started the fire, but escaped the house unharmed. The flames then spread to the larger building, where the roof collapsed.

At 7:08 p.m., fire officials reported the main body of the fire was out and crews were putting out hot spots. No injuries were reported.
