San Diego police arrested one man following a Friday shooting near the Ocean Beach Pier and subsequent pursuit in Point Loma.

Officers responded to the report of the shooting, at about 6:23 p.m. in the 5000 block of Niagara Avenue, and found a male, 52, down on the sidewalk. He said he thought he had suffered a cramp while sitting on a seawall, but then realized he had been shot.

While the victim was transported to a local hospital with a wound to the lower abdomen, police learned that the suspects’ vehicle was a black Dodge Charger.

A car matching it was spotted and officers attempted to stop it, but the driver fled.

The pursuit led to the 2800 block of Midway Drive, at Rosecrans Street, where police said the driver stopped and led a passenger out of the Charger.

When the car stopped the driver and another passenger fled. Police detained both passengers, males aged 29 and 26, but the driver escaped.

“There is an ongoing investigation to see what their involvement is,” Officer R. Heims said.

Detectives from the San Diego police’s West Division are investigating.
