A man died on the street Sunday after being shot in the chest in Del Cerro, police said.

A resident reported a loud bang in the 5700 block of Adobe Falls Road at 12:48 a.m., said Officer Lawanda Fisher of the San Diego Police Department.

Responding officers, from Eastern Division, were updated that residents in the neighborhood had possibly heard a gunshot and that a male had suffered a wound to his upper body.

Officers found the victim in the street with a wound in his chest and attempted life-saving measures until San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel arrived.  Medics pronounced the male dead at the scene at 1:16 a.m.

The victim has not yet been identified.  He is described as a Black male between 35 and 50 years old.  There is no suspect information.

Homicide detectives processed the scene for evidence, checked the area for surveillance video and attempted to locate witnesses. It appears, police said, that the male was walking in the area of Adobe Falls Road before he was shot by an unknown assailant.

The police asked for anyone with information to call the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or San Diego Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
