An 18-year-old man was fatally shot in front of his Mira Mesa home by an unknown assailant Wednesday, authorities said.
Patrol officers responding to a report of gunfire found the victim lying in the roadway in the 10900 block of Deering Street shortly after 9:30 a.m., according to the San Diego Police Department.
“He had (suffered) at least one apparent gunshot wound,” SDPD Lt. Jud Campbell said.
The teen was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending family notification.
It was unclear what prompted the deadly gunfire. Homicide detectives were called in to take charge of the case.
“It is very early in the investigation, and there is very little information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including the motivation and any sort of interaction between the victim and suspect or suspects,” Campbell said in the late afternoon.
