A motorist suspected of driving under the influence in a luxury sports car struck four parked cars in Mission Beach before hitting another car while trying to flee.

The driver, 23, was in a 2022 McLaren moving southbound on Mission Boulevard at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday when the series of incidents began, according to OnScene.TV.

After colliding with the parked cars, he attempted to pass between other parked vehicles when he hit an Uber driver in a Toyota Prius on the right side. The driver had a passenger in the Prius at the time. At that point, the damaged McLaren stopped operating.

A male passenger in the sports car fled, but the driver stayed and blew a .20 on a breathalyzer test. That’s more than double the .08 limit to be considered legally drunk.

The driver told San Diego police he rented the McLaren, which cost from $185,000 and up.

But when challenged, OnScene reported, as most rental companies will not rent to anyone under the age of 25, the driver allegedly told officers the rent agreement “was kinda under the table”.

Police arrested him on suspicion of DUI. Meanwhile, there were no injuries reported, though at least one of the parked cars showed signs of major damage.

Police shut down southbound Mission at Santa Rita for the investigation and cleanup and weren’t expected to reopen the road until at least 2 a.m.
