A pedestrian received critical injuries when he was struck by a vehicle, the Oceanside Police Department said Saturday.
The 55-year-old man was hit at 8:14 p.m. Friday at North El Camino Real and Coco Palms Drive, according to Officer Jennifer Atenza of the OPD.
The man was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla for treatment of his severe injuries, Atenza said.
“The driver of the vehicle stopped, attempted to aid the pedestrian, and remained at the scene to provide a statement to officers,” the officer said.
The OPD Major Accident Investigation Team was called in to investigate the accident. Impairment by alcohol or drugs was not suspected as a factor in the collision.
The roadway was closed about four hours while the scene was investigated.
