People strolling on in Ocean Beach made a grisly discovery Friday as they spotted a man’s body, possibly Hispanic, at the surf line.

They notified San Diego lifeguards around 10:30 a.m. Crews recovered the body, which appeared to have been in the water for a while, according to OnScene.TV. The San Diego County Medical Examiner will determine his identity and cause of death.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection also were notified of the discovery, which follows a fatal fishing boat accident on April 9.

The Panga boat washed ashore and emergency crews rescued two men from the sea. Another victim made it to shore on his own, but a fourth, Mexican national Eleobardo Garcia Lopez, 37, was found dead on the beach early the next day.

Another male’s body washed ashore on April 11.

The men were believed to have been part of a attempt to sneak undocumented migrants into the U.S. It remained unclear if all those who had been aboard the vessel were accounted for, officials with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said at the time.
