A late-morning house fire in a Bay Terraces-area neighborhood displaced one resident Wednesday and caused an estimated $750,000 worth of damage, authorities reported.

The non-injury blaze erupted in the kitchen of the residence in the 7000 block of Windward Street shortly before 10:30 a.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

The flames spread into the attic of the house before crews were able to extinguish the fire, which took about 20 minutes, the city agency reported.

The American Red Cross was called in to help the person who lives in the home arrange for temporary shelter.
