A motorist suffered major injuries in University City Thursday when a 30-foot-long tree limb crushed the cab of his pickup truck.

San Diego police are investigating the crash, but there is evidence to show that the male driver of the landscaping truck left the roadway and rode the curb before colliding with the eucalyptus tree, according to OnScene.TV.

The Ford F-150 was proceeding southbound on Nobel Drive north of Towne Center Drive just after noon when it hit the tree, in the center median, and the limb dropped down.

The truck continued for approximately 75 yards down the street before coming to a stop. Bystanders freed the victim, who medics took to a local hospital.

OnScene.TV reported that he suffered head injuries and a collapsed lung and other internal injuries.

Authorities closed southbound Nobel temporarily following the accident.
