A thief carried out a predawn takeover-style robbery at a Mission Valley motel Tuesday after sneaking into its lobby through an employee entrance, authorities said.

The robber, described only as male, confronted a worker at Super 8 by Wyndham San Diego Hotel Circle in the 400 block of Hotel Circle South shortly before 6 a.m. and ordered the victim to get down on the floor, according to the San Diego Police Department.

After the employee complied, the thief went to a register, took a cash drawer out of it and fled, SDPD Officer Sarah Foster said.

No injuries were reported.
