Authorities asked the public Friday for help in finding a 6-year-old Spring Valley girl allegedly abducted this week by her mother, who does not have legal custody of her.

School staffers saw Kempton Elementary School pupil Jolyn Gutierrez walking away from the campus near Jamacha Boulevard and state Route 125 with 45-year-old Wendy Gutierrez early Tuesday afternoon, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

About two hours later, surveillance cameras captured images of the mother and daughter at a fast-food restaurant in the 3100 block of Plaza Boulevard in National City, and the next day a person reported having seen a woman and child matching their description crossing into Mexico on foot.

Gutierrez is wanted on a kidnapping charge. She is described as a Latina, 5 feet, 4-inches tall and roughly 120 pounds, with hair dyed bright blue. At the time of her last known sighting, she was wearing gray-and-black camouflage cargo pants and a white zip-up hooded sweatshirt and carrying an umbrella.

Her daughter, who is about 3 feet tall and has long brown hair, was wearing a black zip-up hooded sweatshirt and black boots at the time of her disappearance.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477 or contact the agency online at sdcrimestoppers.org. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
