Police, with the help of K-9 units, apprehended three suspects early Sunday after a chase that led them from City Heights to National City.

During the pursuit, the driver allegedly almost hit a police officer while also ramming into a parked car on Home Avenue. The chase ended when the fleeing Mercedes, down to three tires and a rim, crashed on a South Bay freeway transition.

The incident began when neighbors called 911 about a burglary in progress at a residence in the 3300 block of 41st Street, according to OnScene.TV.

San Diego police officers arrived to find three males in a black Mercedes, but when they approached the vehicle, the driver took off. An officer had to dive out of the way, OnScene reported, to avoid being hit.

The pursuit went from City Heights to Fairmount Park, where the suspects allegedly hit a parked car on Home Avenue.

The driver then moved onto southbound Interstate 805 and proceeded to Imperial Avenue, where OnScene reported that the Mercedes lost a tire.

Despite the damage, the driver continued to the westbound state Route 54 transition from the 805, but lost control and crashed.

The suspects, though, weren’t done, OnScene reported – they attempted to flee on foot.

But police, aided by K-9 units, stopped two of them quickly, with one male being bit by a K-9.

The third male continued to avoid officers, but was taken into custody after also being bitten by a K-9.

A fire destroyed the Mercedes after the crash. Authorities closed the transition to SR-54 for more than an hour following the pursuit.
