Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that three suspects in the murder of a Tijuana radio journalist last month have been arrested in Baja California.

Lourdes Maldonado, 68, was shot to death in her car on Jan. 23, less that a week after another Tijuana journalist, Margarito Martinez, was killed outside his home.

“This is a terrible tragedy, and there is no way to bring them back. We are obligated to bring them justice,” said López Obrador in a media briefing on Wednesday.

He did not identify the three suspects or provide other specific information, but said Maldonado’s murder may not be linked to her profession as a journalist.

Another Mexican official said security-camera video showed that the three suspects took a taxi to Maldonado’s neighborhood and lay in wait for her to arrive home.

No arrests have been made in Martinez’ murder.

So far this year, two other journalists have been killed: Jose Gamboa in the eastern state of Veracruz and Roberto Toledo in the western state of Michoacan.

Activists say criminal groups and drug cartels, as well as corrupt government officials, are suspected of carrying out many of the killings .
