A man was taken into custody Saturday after an hours-long standoff with SWAT officers at the garage of a home in Rancho Bernardo.

A SWAT team responded to the 17000 block of Robinia Court at about 8:36 a.m. Saturday, after reports of a man shooting a gun inside his garage.

Police said the man’s girlfriend and sister were inside the home when shots erupted, but were later evacuated to safety. Neither woman was injured, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Authorities began telling people in the area to shelter in their homes at around 9 a.m., and residents in some nearby homes were evacuated.

The man — who was described as being in his 30s — surrendered at about 2:30 p.m. and was brought out of the garage and taken into custody.

No injuries were reported during the standoff, police said.
