U.S. Customs and Border Protection, along with the U.S. Coast Guard and San Diego lifeguards, responded to the scene of a beached boat early Sunday.
Witnesses notified authorities at about 4 a.m. after seeing a 16-foot boat approaching Ocean Beach in high surf before flipping, according to OnScene.TV. They also saw two people running from the beach.
When lifeguards arrived, they found six life preservers. Responders initiated an hours-long search to see if there were other people on the boat.
A Coast Guard helicopter and patrol boat aided in the search, while lifeguards scoured the area along Sunset Cliffs and the beach.
