A pedestrian is hospitalized with serious injuries Wednesday after being struck by a vehicle in San Marcos.

Deputies were called at 11:01 a.m. Tuesday to the 600 block of Woodward Street after receiving a report of a vehicle colliding with a pedestrian, according to Sgt. Charles Morreale of the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.

During their investigation deputies learned a 23-year-old woman was driving northbound on Woodward Street when a 19-year-old male pedestrian entered the roadway in front of her vehicle and was struck, Morreale said. The man sustained severe injuries and was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The driver was not injured in the collision.

Based on a preliminary investigation, Morreale said it does not appear that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or captured the incident on video is asked to contact the sheriff’s department at 760-510-5200.
