A 24-year-old motorcyclist from Northern California was killed Wednesday in a collision on Interstate 5 near the Del Mar Fairgrounds, authorities reported.

The man was riding southbound when his Kawasaki two-wheeler rear-ended a Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck north of Valle De La Valle in Solana Beach at about 9 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The Nevada City resident tumbled onto the roadway, suffering fatal trauma. He died at the scene of the accident.

No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the crash, which left lanes blocked in the area for about two hours, was not immediately clear, though intoxication was not believed to have been a factor, CHP public-affairs Officer Hunter Gerber said.
