An Escondido man was under arrest Wednesday on suspicion of fatally knifing a stranger who had gotten into a fistfight with the suspect’s brother in a neighborhood near Daley Ranch.

Luis Ledesma, 21, allegedly stabbed 33-year-old Juan Reynoso to death in front of a home in the 1300 block of Magnolia Avenue in Escondido shortly before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to police.

The deadly confrontation took place after Reynoso, who was in the area looking for a relative, “knocked on a random door to see if the family member was inside of the house,” said Lt. Bode Berreth of the Escondido Police Department.

Ledesma’s brother answered the door and spoke with Reynoso, who “appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and was acting disorderly in the front yard,” according to Berreth.

During an ensuing argument, the two men came to blows, and Ledesma allegedly came to his brother’s defense by retrieving a knife and stabbing Reynoso in the chest.

Paramedics took Reynoso, an Escondido resident, to Palomar Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Ledesma was arrested at the scene of the stabbing on suspicion of murder, Berreth said.
