A collision on a Clairemont Mesa street left a male motorcyclist dead Friday afternoon.

The fatal crash in the 5900 block of Balboa Avenue happened shortly before 4 p.m., according to the San Diego Police Department.

A westbound Chevy Malibu, driven by a woman, 64, turned in front of an eastbound Yamaha R6. Police said the motorcycle was moving between two lanes when the woman attempted a southbound turn. He hit the right front door of the sedan.

The victim, 26, whose name was not released, died at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

Police shut down a stretch of road around the crash site to allow for investigation and cleanup. The closure was expected to last into the early evening, SDPD public affairs Officer Darius Jamsetjee said.
