National City Police opened fire on a machete-wielding man who was breaking windows at a storage facility early Friday morning.

Police were alerted at 4:30 a.m. by a female employee of National/54 Self Storage at 33rd Street and National City Boulevard. The woman said the man was inside the facility’s fence and breaking windows.

Arriving officers used a Taser to try to subdue the man, but opened fire when he approached them waving the machete.

Video from the scene showed the man down and bleeding and officers attempting life-saving measures. His condition was not immediately reported.
