A woman in her mid-30s was struck and killed by a vehicle on Interstate 5 near Pershing Drive Thursday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.
The woman, whose name was not immediately released, was walking along the fog line of I-5 when she was hit by a silver Ford in lane No. 1 around 7 a.m., according to the CHP.
She was taken to a hospital, where she died from her injuries, CHP spokesman Sal Castro said.
The driver remained on scene and cooperated with authorities, according to Castro, who added that alcohol or drugs were not suspected to be a factor in the driver’s actions.
Two traffic lanes were shut down for 70 minutes and reopened shortly after 8:10 a.m., Castro said. Investigators were on scene at 8 a.m.
Castro said the county Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting a toxicology report.
