Oceanside police arrested a 38-year-old man Thursday in connection with a shooting last month at the Oceanside Transit Center.

Officers took Brett Burgess into custody on a felony warrant for suspicion of attempted murder, according to officer Tom Bussey of the Oceanside Police Department.

Police located Burgess at 8:45 a.m. Thursday, Bussey said in a news release. The statement said investigators found the handgun allegedly used in the crime.

The shooting happened Sept. 30 at 7:15 a.m. at 195 S. Tremont St., according to police.

The victim, 31, whose name was withheld, suffered gunshot wounds to his stomach and left hand, and was airlifted to Scripps Hospital in La Jolla, where he remains in stable condition.

Burgess is being held in the Vista Detention Facility, Bussey said. According to booking information from the San Diego County Sheriffs Department, no bail was set for Burgess, who is ineligible for release.

Police did not indicate how they found Burgess, or where he lives.
