Firefighters in East County continued to battle a 425-acre vegetation fire in remote Canebreak Canyon Sunday.

Crews had the blaze, dubbed the Overland Fire, 25% contained by 2:15 p.m., working overnight and Sunday morning on the containment line.

The fire began at 9:15 a.m. Saturday and quickly grew from 10 acres to 343 acres by the afternoon, Cal Fire San Diego said.

Officials on Saturday called for ground resources to be flown in by helicopter to the area, south of Borrego Springs.

The fire burned west of county Highway S-2 and Canebrake Canyon Road, near a small desert community east of Mount Laguna.

The flames threatened no structures, Cal Fire said.
