A woman was killed when a Ford Mustang involved in an illegal street race struck her car and caused a chain-reaction crash in Chula Vista, authorities reported Sunday.
The Mustang driver was racing a Subaru westbound on L Street just after 6 p.m. on Saturday when he ran a red light at Third Avenue and struck the woman’s Nissan Altima.
Chula Vista Police officers arrested the Mustang driver and are searching for the other racer, which they described as a 2014 or newer white Subaru WRX.
The woman who died was not immediately identified. Two children in the back seat of the Altima were hospitalized after the crash.
A witness at the scene said the children were crying for their grandmother after the collision.
