A bicyclist was struck and killed Wednesday night by an SUV on a rural road in Jamul, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened shortly before 7:20 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Lyons Valley Road and Monterey Crest Drive, just east of where the road becomes Skyline Truck Trail, California Highway Patrol Officer Travis Garrow said.

A southbound man on a black Motiv bicycle on Monterey Crest Drive entered the intersection directly in front of a westbound 2002 GMC Yukon SUV driven by a 39-year-old woman, which struck him, Garrow said.

The bicyclist, whose name and age were not immediately available, was pronounced dead at the scene, the officer said.

The SUV driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, Garrow said. Intoxication was not a factor in the crash.
