A fire broke out Wednesday at a large National City apartment complex, damaging several residential units undergoing renovations.
The non-injury blaze in the 800 block of Eta Street erupted about noon, according to the National City Fire Department.
Firefighters arrived to find flames and smoke issuing from a second-floor unit in a two-story apartment building, NCFD Battalion Chief Robert Hernandez said.
It took the personnel about 20 minutes to subdue the blaze, which also resulted in water damage to a second vacant residence adjacent to the one that burned, he said.
An electrical malfunction was believed to have sparked the fire, he said.
