A 49-year-old man was hit by a car while crossing a San Diego street Monday morning and the motorist fled the scene.

The crash was reported just after 1:20 a.m. in the 6600 block of El Cajon Boulevard, according to San Diego Police Officer John Buttle.

The victim was in an unmarked crosswalk when he was struck in the No. 1 eastbound lane of El Cajon Boulevard by a dark sedan driven by someone who did not stop to render assistance, Buttle said.

Paramedics took the victim to a hospital for treatment of an open fracture of his lower right leg, the officer said.
